Home Call: Dave Reid

Dave Reid April 3, 1937 - January 31, 2012

Our dear brother, Dave Reid, was called into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ yesterday. “Dr. Dave,” as he was fondly known, died in a tragic skiing accident in Utah. He was very active in the Lord’s work both on and offline.

Dave taught the Word of God at Emmaus Bible College from 1975-2003 where he was well respected by the student body and faculty alike. My wife, who was privileged to take one of his classes at Emmaus, recalls “…his enthusiastic personality and teaching style. I vividly remember how he brought the Old Testament to life, often referring to his visits to Israel.”

Much of brother’s Reid ministry has been preserved and is available online. Several of Dave Reid’s sermons are posted on the Voices For Christ website. You can also explore 39 years of his bi-monthly publication “Devotions for Growing Christians” on the www.growingchristians.org website.

To read more memories of Dr. Dave visit the Remembering “Dr. Dave” page on the Emmaus Bible College website.

Please pray for Dr. Reid’s family and loved ones during this very difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the Reid family. How grateful I am to have known and traveled with Dave & Margie. I am so grateful to the Lord for the impact they have had on my life. May you all know God’s peace and abounding love in the coming days and weeks. . .Carol Prinz

    • Thank you for your kind comments. As mentioned in the post, my wife had a class (OT Survey) with Dr. Dave back when she was a student at Emmaus in the 90s. She so clearly remembers his deep laugh and smile… but more importantly his love for the Word of God.

We can only imagine Dave’s joy in the presence of our Lord and Savior, but our prayers for peace and strength for his family will continue. Dave recently preached at Bayside Community in Florida and enjoyed his annual golf outing with Mike and friends from Bayside, stating it was his “highlight of the year” and also shared how he was looking forward to his ski trip. No eye has seen or ear has heard what the Lord has in store for those who trust in Him…..one day he, too, will share his smile in Heaven welcoming those who were brought to the Lord by his seed planting. We rejoice in Dave’s promotion to Heaven, his gift from the Lord, for trusting in Him.

Dr. Dave had such a profound influence on so many people during his journey. Both my brother and my wife were his students. My wife and I had the priviledge of having Dr. Dave baptize us in the Jordan River during our Holy Land Tour with Dave and Margie many years ago. My brother had also remained close with Dr. Dave, having taken ski trips together, including this last trip. I trust his family knows that he will be so very sorely missed by the countless people he touched over the years. We rejoice in the fact that he is with our Lord and was called home doing what he loved. However, we still grieve for the loss of Dr. Dave and pray the Lord’s comfort will be felt by Margie, their children and grandchildren. His legacy of encouragement and grace, love for family and friends, and most of all, his love for the Lord, will live on. Rest well, dear brother.

We traveled three times to the Holy Land with Dr Dave and his wife Margie. We had a wonderful time, each time better than the one before. We’re sad to know he’s gone, but we know we’ll see him again.

I only knew Dr. Dave through the ski trips, having been introduced to him through a mutual friend back in 2002 when he was living in Chicago. As I got to know him over the years, my respect and admiration and yes, even love for him grew. I was one of the 5 others with him this past week in Utah. He had skied off by himself late in the morning, and we never saw him again. When we were informed by the ski patrol that he had died, we were devastated. We cried hard, and continue to cry – not for Dave, because he is with the Lord, but for us and his family, who will miss him dearly.
I know there must have been one heck of a ticker tape parade in heaven when Dave made his arrival. There is no doubt that he got a big “Well done, good and faithful servant” upon his arrival. We miss you, Dave!

We have been blessed by Dr. Reid’s Bible teaching from the radio (WLPE, Appling, GA) and the internet for the past 5.5 years. We used his teachings as we home schooled our high school students for their Bible credit. What a gifted man of God. We are so thankful the Lord enabled him to complete the entire Bible so many generations can be fed. We will continue to tell others about the Growing Christian Ministry. He will be greatly missed.
