J Dwight Pentecost, 1915-2014

I just learned that one of my favorite authors and Bible teachers, J Dwight Pentecost, has been promoted to glory. I have benefited from a number of his books including his seminal work on prophesy: Things to Come, A Study in Biblical Eschatology. I look forward to meeting him someday.

Boston Marathon Explosions

Boston Marathon Explosions April 15 2013As reports continue to flood in from Boston regarding this afternoon’s multiple explosions my heart felt prayers go out to all who are in Boston today, especially the victims and their families.

While this is still a developing event and it is way too early to draw any conclusions~~ it would at least appear that the explosions were intentional.

If this is the case, in addition to praying for the victims we should also keep in mind the words of our Lord Jesus Christ who said, “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” Matthew 5:44 ESV.

This, of course, is not easy to do– yet I do believe it is an entirely appropriate response for a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Another thought is the extremely fragile nature of human life. The Bible repeatedly reminds us that life is brief… we should all give our loved ones an extra hug and a kiss today.

We should also be mindful that the Bible very clearly tells us “it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” Hebrews 9:27 ESV. Are you prepared to die? Are you prepared for this judgement?? If you have any doubts check out this video over at GoodNewsPennsylvania.com.

This week last year bombs were dropped by an aircraft into a South Sudan marketplace killing five innocent people and wounding five others. Though Sudan denies it, the plane likely came from Sudan (South Sudan’s northern neighbor). This event was yet another sad atrocity in a long saga of violence in the struggle between Sudan and South Sudan.[source]

On A Hill Far Away…

Good Friday The Day Love Died

Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
