vlog: 1 Corinthians 2:9-11 – The Spirit of God Teaches the Christian

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-11 KJV

How does God speak to the believer? Watch this installment of our journey through First Corinthians for some answers to this very interesting question.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 2:6-8 – Information for the Initiated

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 1 Corinthians 2:6-8 KJV

Ever wondered why one person reads the Bible and understands it, yet someone else can’t see what it says?

How is this possible? One is a believer and has the Spirit of God, the other is in darkness and cannot see.

Watch this vblog to see how God communicates truth to His people.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 2:5 – Saving Faith

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:5 KJV

You hear people say at times, “I have my faith.” Or others say – “I wish I had your faith.” Again you might hear someone say “as long as we believe something we will be ok.”

Are these statements true or do they just comfort us in our delusional way of thinking? I am not sure what you would say but when I come to the Word of God I find some very specific teaching about this.

I am praying that you will be helped by considering this truth with me.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 – The Message and the Messenger

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 KJV

When you see some preachers preach you would be quite surprised if they told you that they were feeling nervous or inadequate. The modern mindset is to be seen to be confident and capable.

Biblical preaching is quite different!

Paul bares his soul and admits in this section that when he arrived in Corinth that he was feeling weak, he was trembling and fearful. Maybe the closeted atmosphere in which most preaching takes place these days has robbed us of the reality that we are preaching to lost souls who are on the payroll of the enemy. The enemy is real and powerful, the audience can be antagonistic and our own capabilities will not be of any help to us.

The key to understanding the point of 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 is to appreciate the power that lies in the hand of God which will be unleashed through the preaching of His message.

Trust this vblog is a blessing to you.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 – A Super Status in Christ

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 KJV

If salvation is all about what God does in an individual’s life you might think that it will leave you with little to boast about. In one sense you are right. But the scriptures don’t paint the picture like this. We are free to boast about what God has done for us.

Watch to see the wonders of this truth.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 – The Core Class of Christian

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 KJV

We all like to classify and caricature people at times.

If I asked you how you would describe the average Christian in terms of intelligence or where you saw them in society i.e. rich, poor etc I wonder what you would say.

In the western world Christianity has developed an image that does not tie in with the Christianity of Bible times. Enough said – watch the video and see what God had on His mind when he was deciding who would be in His church.

Flashback: This Week Last Year [2012 Week #12]

Toulouse Montauban Shootings March 2012This week last year the nation of France was rocked by a series of merciless gun attacks on Jewish citizens and members of the French military.

The hate fueled series of events began with deadly attacks on members of the French military on March 11 & 15. On the 19th the gunman struck again opening fire on a group of young Jewish school children who were waiting outside their school.

The horrific chain of events culminated with a thirty hour police standoff and one last gun battle that left the perpetrator dead. In all, seven died and five were injured. [Sources: 1 2].

Clearly, this world is brutally violent. Thankfully for the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ this world is not our home! For He has defeated death and Hell (Revelation 1:18) and we as believers look forward to that day “when the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’ ‘O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, a who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 ESV.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 1:22-25 Two Mindsets – One Solution = Christ

For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:22-25 KJV

In this section of First Corinthians Paul explores the ‘religious mindset’ and the ‘intellectual mindset’. This was classically described as the Jewish Mind and the Gentile Mind.

The same divergent ways of thinking exist today. In the west we claim to be more clinical in our thought process but in the east feelings and emotions have a larger part to play. This may be a generalization but there is some truth in it.

Discover how fresh and up to date scripture is when dealing with the way the world has always thought about Christ and Him crucified.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 1:18-21 – What a Foolish Message!

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 1 Corinthians 1:18-21 KJV

Imagine you were asked to devise a method of saving mankind from sin, pain, death and unending punishment. What would you come up with? Intellectually we might even try to explain why we don’t actually deserve punishment or that morals are all man made or at least only exist in our minds.

God’s method of salvation consisted of His own Son becoming a sinless man and suffering at the hands of His enemies. In an act of voluntary submission to death on a cross and accepting the assignment of our sin to Him He paid in full the debt that we owed and as a result purchased eternal life.

What a method! Intellectually mind blowing, culturally strange and essentially beyond belief to the natural mind but this is the way of salvation.

Paul argues the case in the verses we are considering.

vlog: 1 Corinthians 1:12-18 – No Divisions

Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:12-18 KJV

The church must look quite a mess from heaven’s viewpoint.

Many Christians not only hold the name of Christ but also operate under an additional tag – a denomination. The division of God’s people into artificial groupings was never the will of God but the problem started very early in the history of the church.

Paul addresses this problem when writing to the church in Corinth. He even outlaws those who claim to exclusively follow Christ.

I trust these verses challenge the way we think.
