Prezi: A New Presentation Alternative?

For many years PowerPoint has been the main presentation tool used by many speakers and presenters. That’s no surprise since it comes packaged with the world’s leading office productivity suite. It also boasts a simple learning curve. About 2 years ago Chuck Gianotti was speaking at our chapel and he used something different. This was a cool, slick presentation and being the techie wannabe that I am, I had to check it out. The website is prezi.com, the software is free (with an option to upgrade features for a yearly price) and everything you need to know and get started is found right on the website. You don’t even have to install any software on your computer, it’s all online.

Prezi is very simple to use. It takes just a few minutes to get used to how it operates. Putting together a presentation is a snap. You can add images and Youtube video (needs internet connection) easily and position them anywhere in the presentation.  One of the things I love about Prezi is how easy it is to control the flow of content. You decide which piece of content comes next in your presentation and inserting or removing content is quick.

If you regularly make use of presentations when you preach give Prezi a look. I still use good ol’ PowerPoint now and then but Prezi has become my main tool for presenting the Word.
