Titus 1:15-16 Faith vs. Religion

This is the tenth video in a series of teaching videos on the book of Titus. You can find the first video here.

Religion and religious practices can’t clean up your life!

“Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.” Titus 1:15-16 KJV

Purity comes from faith in Christ and the evidence is seen in how you live. In Titus 1:15-16 Paul uses some tough language to describe religious folk who look good on the outside but have never really trusted Christ.

Watch this latest vblog but read the two verses for yourself before you start. Enjoy!

Titus 1:11-12 Liars, Beasts, and Gluttons

This is the eighth video in a series of teaching videos on the book of Titus. You can find the first video here.

Have you ever been insulted when someone defined your nationality or ethnic grouping in insulting terms?

In this letter Paul quotes one of the well known Cretian prophets as he describes the national characteristics of the people of Crete (I am sure that it is not true today) and it is quite insulting stuff. Why rub salt in the wounds of a nation? The reason – God can change what we are naturally into something that is good and pleasing to him.

Titus 1:10-11 Why Such High Standards For Elders?

This is the seventh video in a series of teaching videos on the book of Titus. You can find the first video here.

Why is the list of credentials for elders so tough?

Do they really need to be of such a high standard?

It looks as if they have to be pretty capable Bible Teachers as well as shepherds, carers and leaders. This latest vblog explains from Titus chapter one what the elders in the fairly new church in Crete faced and how God had equipped the elders to handle the situation. It’s not so different today!

Which Church? New Testament Churches Were Guided By Overseers

Which Church?

The responsibility for leadership in New Testament assemblies devolved upon overseers, (often translated ‘bishop’ in the King James Version). These men are also described as being elders, that is, men of a mature spiritual experience, 1 Timothy 3:6. They were not elected by the congregation, but appointed by the sovereign choice of the Holy Spirit, Acts 20:28. Certain qualifications had to be met, and these are outlined in 1 Timothy chapter 3, and Titus chapter 1.

Titus 1:5 Tasked With Things To Do In Crete

This is the fifth video in a series of teaching videos on the book of Titus. You can find the first video here.

The Apostle Paul was not expecting Titus to be wasting his time when he left him behind in Crete. No sight seeing for him every day! Paul gave him two main tasks to be getting on with.

The first task involved tying up some ‘loose ends’. When Paul left Crete there were still some things that needed to be done so he asks Titus in this letter to finish off what he had started. To get the full impact of what had to be done you need to read all three chapters of this letter.

The second task was to identify elders to care for the new believers. What is an elder and what is their role? Discover with me how the word of God puts it in this vblog and next weeks.

Which Church? New Testament Churches Were Restricted To Christian Membership

Which Church? New Testament Churches Had No Sectarian Title

One sad feature of the present day is that many of the Lord’s dear people are connected to religious systems in which believers and unbelievers are linked. That situation was never the norm in New Testament times. In 1 Corinthians 1:2, Paul described the composition of the church of God at Corinth like this, “them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints”. Thus each member was a genuine believer for it is our faith in Christ that sanctifies us, Acts 26:18. He also spoke of assemblies in general as “churches of the saints”, 1 Corinthians 14:33, another indication that there should be an exclusively believing membership.

Titus 1:2-4 Why God Called Paul to be an Apostle

This is the fourth video in a series of teaching videos on the book of Titus. You can find the first video here.

In this vblog we explore two main reasons why God called Paul to be an apostle. They match very closely to the two main public functions of any local church. The main purpose of any local church, and the church which is the body of Christ, is to bring glory to God but these are the means by which that this is brought about.

1. To preach the gospel
2. To teach the believers so that they become godly in character and practice.

I trust God blesses His word to you.

Titus 1:1 Digging Into Chapter 1

This is the third video in a series of teaching videos on the book of Titus. You can find the first video here.

As we continue our journey through Paul’s letter to Titus we get a glimpse of the man who is writing. He was a free born Roman citizen as well as a devout Jew. Being educated to an extremely high standard he had influence in high religious and political society. However you would not guess any of this from the letter we are studying. He starts off by describing himself as a slave. First impressions they say are lasting impressions! Why would this man make such a grave social slip up. Watch and listen to discover why!
